Many families in Pennsylvania know what it feels like to lose a dear loved one. It’s no secret that the death of a beloved family member is one of the most difficult things to endure in life. However, when a loved one is lost as the result of medical malpractice, the experience can be absolutely devastating.
Lawsuit filed
In another state, a lawsuit was recently filed by the family of a man who died after his pacemaker began protruding from his chest. According to the lawsuit, the man had a pacemaker surgically implanted and developed an infection. He sought treatment for the infection and allegedly told his doctors that he felt as if the device was slowly moving toward the surface of his skin.
Tragic death
The man continued regular visits for treatment of the infection. After a few weeks, the pacemaker could be seen protruding from the man’s chest through the incision. A few months later, the pacemaker was removed, but allegedly, the man’s condition had worsened. According to the claim, he died a few days later of septic shock. Reportedly, the lawsuit was recently settled with the defendants agreeing to pay $550,000 to the family.
Unfortunately, negligence during medical treatment is responsible for killing and injuring thousands of people each year across the country. Those in Pennsylvania who have been affected by medical malpractice could benefit by discussing their situation with a seasoned attorney. A successful lawsuit could result in much-needed compensation to help victims and families get through this stressful and difficult experience.
