South Williamsport and the Williamsport area are not large metropolises like Philadelphia, but we still have our share of car accidents. Most crashes are relatively mild. But unfortunately, negligent and dangerous motorists sometimes cause fatal or life-altering injuries to innocent people in Lycoming County.
Examples of fatal crashes in South Williamsport
People who live and work in this area know the roads where they are most likely to get hit by a bad driver. The numbers may bear this out. Here are the sites of several fatal car accidents in Williamsport and South Williamsport from 2005-21:
- Charles St. and Second Ave.
- W. Southern Ave. and Sidney St.
- U.S. Highway 15 near Borderline Rd.
- Interstate 180 near the Market St. bridge
- The interchange between I-180 and U.S. 15
Given the higher speeds, it is probably no surprise that three of the fatal wrecks happened on highways. But even city streets can be the scene of a tragedy, as the first two accidents on the list show. Without knowing more details about these incidents, speeding, drunk driving and distracted driving are frequently the cause of deadly auto accidents in Lycoming County and the rest of the country. In some cases, problems with the design of the road are to blame. Narrow lanes, poor lighting at night and icy surfaces in winter can all cause even responsible motorists to lose control.
Car accidents happen in small towns, too
Living in a small town does not guarantee that you and your loved ones will never get seriously injured on the road. If it ever happens, you could be disabled for years or the rest of your life. Or you could lose a spouse or parent you relied upon for financial and emotional support. While a personal injury claim cannot undo what has happened, it can help relieve the financial burden their injuries cause.
