Everyone knows that accidents can easily occur when drivers have been drinking or are texting while driving. However, drivers who are unaware of their surroundings are another common cause of car accidents in Pennsylvania. Recently, four people, including three children, were hospitalized after a commercial truck collided with their vehicle on Feb. 21.
The accident occurred on a Pennsylvania interstate when the truck driver attempted to merge into another lane. As he did so, his truck collided with the car occupied by the accident victims, which was directly beside him. This sent the car into a spin, causing it to strike the center concrete median. After hitting the median, the car then rolled onto its roof where it finally came to a stop.
In addition to the driver, the car was also carrying three children (two 6 year olds and a 9-year-old). All four occupants were injured, though police did not state the extent of the injuries. Their injuries were severe enough that they were taken to a local hospital via ambulance. The truck driver did not suffer any injuries in the accident.
The victims in this accident likely incurred significant medical bills from their hospital stay. To help cope with these expenses, they could file a personal injury claim against the truck driver and the trucker’s employer. A parent or guardian would typically be entitled to file claims on behalf of the children. Pennsylvania residents involved in similar car accidents have the right to file personal injury claims. An experienced personal injury attorney can assist those interested in the filing process.
