Construction sites can be dangerous locations for Pennsylvania workers. In spite of the many safety precautions taken, accidents still occur regularly. Workers who are injured in such incidents often opt to file workers’ compensation claims. One construction worker is likely looking into filing a claim after a wall collapsed on him.
The accident occurred at an old city building that was in the process of being demolished. At the time of the accident, witnesses describe hearing a loud boom and seeing a brick wall crumble down into the basement of the building. The chief building official for the city stated that the cause of the collapse is unknown, as the wall appeared to have been properly braced. City safety inspectors as well as OSHA officials are conducting a full investigation.
Bystanders and nearby police officers found the construction worker pinned beneath a large number of bricks. The group worked together for nearly 25 minutes to free him. Once out, the man was rushed to the hospital. Reports state that he suffered serious injuries not thought to be life-threatening, though no other details were given. No other workers were injured in the collapse.
Because of the severity of his injuries, the construction worker will likely miss work for a period of time. This also means he could lose wages from being out of work. However, should he file a workers’ compensation claim, he could be reimbursed for those wages, medical bills and related expenses. Any Pennsylvania residents injured in workplace accidents could consult experienced workers’ compensation attorneys for more information about filing claims.
