In a perfect world, every Pennsylvania resident who undergoes a medical procedure would get the appropriate level of treatment and care that he or she deserves. In the real world, however, thousands of patients are killed or injured every year around the country due to medical malpractice. In today’s fast-paced system of health care, there are many factors that can contribute to a provider making a mistake.
Details of medical malpractice claim
Recently in another state, a medical malpractice lawsuit claimed that negligence led to a woman becoming permanently paralyzed. Allegedly, the woman received a steroid and pain relief injection in her back after visiting a local clinic. According to the lawsuit, she had an epidural hematoma from the injection and was taken to an emergency room at a local hospital.
The lawsuit said the woman desperately needed an MRI scan and immediate surgery, but there were various unnecessary delays in her treatment. Apparently, the woman ended up suffering permanent paralysis. The plaintiff claimed that the delayed treatment as well as negligence from the doctor who performed the initial injection caused her injuries. Reportedly, a jury recently returned a verdict of nearly $10.2 million in the case.
What can victims go for help?
Although Pennsylvania is home to some of the country’s best physicians and medical professionals, these people are not immune to mistakes. Any individual in Pennsylvania whose injuries have been caused by medical malpractice has the right to contact an experienced lawyer and seek legal recourse. A successfully litigated claim could result in deserved compensation and, many times, a sense of justice.
