Every day, thousands of people across the state of Pennsylvania visit surgeons, physicians and other health care professionals for a myriad of medical needs. Fortunately, the vast majority of these practitioners are skilled and highly capable. However, doctors are also human, and humans make mistakes. Medical malpractice remains one of the leading causes of injury and death in the United States.
Alleged medical malpractice
In another state, a surgeon and a nurse were hit with serious charges after a woman died due to an alleged botched surgery. According to claims, the woman underwent a breast augmentation surgery and experienced complications during the procedure. The woman went into cardiac arrest in surgery, but allegedly, nearly three hours went by before her medical providers contacted emergency services.
Charges filed
The lawsuit also claimed that an unlicensed medical assistant was instructed to inject the woman with local anesthesia during the procedure. When paramedics arrived on the scene, the lawsuit noted that the responders were shocked by what they found. Tragically, the woman died a little over a month later. The woman’s surgeon and a nurse were both charged with involuntary manslaughter.
When a patient seeks medical treatment, he or she trusts that they will be appropriately cared for. Unfortunately, this does not always happen. Those in Pennsylvania who have suffered injuries or the loss of a loved one due to medical malpractice reserve the right to contact an experienced attorney and seek legal recourse. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in substantial compensation to help ease the pain and suffering of victims and families.
