Driving while under the influence of alcohol is one of the most dangerous and reckless things a person can do. Law enforcement agencies across the state of Pennsylvania have done a great job of cracking down on impaired drivers as well as educating the public about the risks of drunk driving. Despite the obvious dangers of drunk driving, people still choose to get behind the wheel while intoxicated. By doing so, they endanger the lives of all those around them.
Accident details
Recently, two Pennsylvania state troopers and a civilian were killed by a suspected impaired driver in Philadelphia. The accident happened just after midnight in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95. According to reports, the officers were responding to calls about a man walking along I-95 near a southbound traffic lane. As the troopers were attempting to bring the pedestrian out of harm’s way, reports said a vehicle attempted to pass them on the shoulder of the roadway at a high speed.
Absolute tragedy
Reportedly, the vehicle struck both officers as well as the pedestrian, knocking them into the northbound lanes. Tragically, authorities said they were all pronounced dead at the scene. Reports said the driver was apprehended and is now facing possible DUI charges, as well as other serious charges.
There is never a good excuse to get behind the wheel while intoxicated. Pennsylvania families who have suffered the loss of an immediate family member due to negligence can take action by speaking with a seasoned litigator. Although nothing can replace a loved one, a wrongful death claim could result in just compensation to help families recover from this tragedy.
